This is the third most popular trekking zone in
Nepal that lies in the northeast of Kathmandu.
Trekking to this zone offers the opportunity to
explore Tamang villages, baffling extremes in
topography with vibrant climatic conditions and
to climb small peaks at a comfortably low elevation.
Much of the trekking trail passes through semi
tropical forests where moss covers the ground
and orchids cling to tree trunks. The Gosainkunda
Lake situated in the zone is a much- revered holy
lake for Hindus and Buddhists.

AZTE-008:
Helambu Circuit |

This is a 7-day trek that makes a circuit of the
Helambu region. The easiest starting point for
this trek is Sundarijal due its proximity to Kathmandu.
Helambu is the good trekking destination throughout
the normal October to May trekking season. This
trek remains at reasonably low elevations, there
is little chance of altitude problem but you should
be prepared for cold and possible snow at Tharepati
during the winter. There are fewer trekkers here
than in the Everest, Annnapurna or Langtang regions
and good lodges are abundant and uncrowned.

AZTE-009:
Langtang Gosainkund Helambu |
The Langtang-Gosainkunda region is a collection
of Sherpa Valleys north of Kathmandu, close
to the Tibetan border. The rough road now reaches
as far as Dhunche, only a day’s drive
from Kathmandu. Yet, despite this, Langtang
remains a relatively less trekked area. Bill
Tilman, a famous explorer and climbing partner
of Eric Shipton, described Langtang as one of
the world’s most beautiful valleys. We
exit by passing the holy lake of Gosainkunda
and crossing the Laurebina La (4100m). Here,
you will have excellent view into Tibet and
meet Hindu pilgrims before gradually dropping
down the ridges and driving back to Kathmandu.

AZTE-010:
Langtang Valley |
|
Langtang is a narrow valley that lies just south
of the Tibetan-border. It is sandwiched between
the main Himalayan range to the north and a slightly
lower range of snowy peaks to the south. A trek
to the Langtang Valley offers an opportunity to
explore ethnic villages, climb small peaks and
visit glaciers at comfortably low elevations.

AZTE-011:
Kyanjing Gompa to Ganjala Pass |
|
It
is a camping trek. Walking from the Kyanjin Gompa
at the Langtang route south to Tarke Gyang in
Helambu involves crossing the 5106m. Ganja La.
The pass is usually blocked by snow from December
to March and at any time a bad weather change
can make crossing the pass decidedly dangerous.
The walk takes five days climb between Kyanjing
Gompa to Tarke Gyang. There is no permanent settlement.
The final climb to the pass on both sides is steep.

Between Kathmandu and Pokhara
there are three major groups and peaks: Ganesh
Himal, Langtang, Manaslu and Himal Chuli and the
large Annapurna Himal. This trek is recommended
by many trekkers though it is not as popular as
Annapurna and Everest. It is famous for Tamang
culture, rhododendron forest and it is a convenient
distance from Kathmandu.
